Experimental Study on the Impact of Using FRP Sheets on the Axial Compressive Performance of Short-Circular Composite Columns

This paper conducts an experimental study on the axial compressive performance of FRP-steel-concrete composite columns. Nine short columns were produced and evaluated in study, comprising three concrete-filled steel tube reference six columns, respectively denoted as “reference columns” “composite columns”. Two categories failure modes, including shear waist drum, observed from experiments. The mode may trend toward drum more FRP layers used. number had a direct effect level strength attained, with greater resulting increase strength. Moreover, tensile higher elastic modulus CFRP sheets are effective at improving stiffness Finally, four-stage confinement mechanism for FRP-wrapped concrete is proposed discussed, through which damage mechanisms structures rationally characterized.
